New numbers released by the federal government show an alarming trend. During the first half of this year, the number of traffic fatalities on U.S. roadways jumped 9 percent. Estimates show that more than 16,000 people have died so far this year. The fatal car crash happened around 3:30 a.m. on Sept. 9. Police say the driver of the car lost control of the vehicle before crashing into trees and a nearby pizzeria.
