Most New York City residents do not have a broad understanding of various medical conditions and the appropriate treatments. Therefore, they rely on their physicians to provide them with the best care possible. A medical malpractice lawsuit may be pursued when a patient is harmed as a result of a doctor’s negligent actions.
A Brooklyn doctor is facing criminal charges for his alleged negligence that ultimately led to a patient’s death. The doctor has been charged with manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide. He also faces additional charges.
Doctors should generally avoid performing liposuction on patients who have a history of heart disease. The victim in this case had a heart transplant earlier in life. Prosecutors allege that the doctor in question knew about the patient’s condition but performed the procedure on the patient anyway. She died at a New York City hospital after going into cardiac arrest.
In addition to criminal charges and penalties, the physician may end up facing a medical malpractice lawsuit. Patients and their family members expect that doctors will make appropriate decisions based on a patient’s health history. Preventing patient harm should be a doctor’s number one priority.
Surviving family members may feel an enormous amount of grief and sadness after they lose a loved one. When it is believed that a doctor failed in his or her duty of care, a malpractice claim may be appropriate and necessary. Compensation that is awarded through a successful malpractice claim may help family members avoid financial hardships as a result of a love one’s untimely death.
