Speed appears to be a factor in an accident that left three people dead, including one woman from New York.
The fatal car crash happened around 3:30 a.m. on Sept. 9. Police say the driver of the car lost control of the vehicle before crashing into trees and a nearby pizzeria. A gas line was severed and both the car and the pizzeria became engulfed in flames. None of the three people in the vehicle were able to get out in time. Authorities say the three were celebrating the driver’s 21st birthday.
The crash did not happen in New York City. However, these kinds of accidents happen all too frequently all across the country. Crashes in which speed is a factor often result in severe injuries.
Drivers have a responsibility to operate a motor vehicle appropriately. That means abiding by traffic laws, avoiding alcohol and drugs before getting behind the wheel and remaining attentive.
Negligent drivers put themselves and others in danger. People who are involved in an accident as a result of another person’s reckless actions often sustain debilitating injuries. They may be forced to undergo multiple surgeries and months of rehabilitation. Sadly, many injuries are fatal.
In addition to the pain and suffering accident victims and their family members must endure, they may also be faced with financial hardships. Medical bills, funeral expenses and lost wages may create even further difficulties.
Fortunately, victims and their family members may be able to hold reckless drivers responsible through civil lawsuits. The money that is awarded through a lawsuit can be put towards medical bills and funeral expenses. It can alleviate any financial burdens and help people move on with their lives.
