Two men were killed on Queens Boulevard on Tuesday. The men, apparently construction workers, were struck by a speeding vehicle and were killed instantly. According to residents, the area is nicknamed the ‘Boulevard of Death’ because there are so many fatal car accidents in the area. The driver of the car was hospitalized for minor injuries and was arrested with two outstanding warrants.
Fatal pedestrian accidents are all too common in New York City. In this case, the driver had been speeding for some time, as evidenced by nearby traffic cameras. It is possible his speed was also motivated by making a yellow light, something many drivers attempt. However, this often puts pedestrians at risk. High speeds can lead to drivers losing control of their vehicles and striking pedestrians in the crosswalk – or in this case, on the sidewalk. The two men were apparently working construction at the time of the accident and had no involvement with the driver. Now there are two families who are in mourning and have lost a household earner. The difficulties that can arise as a result can be long-lasting and permanent. For many families it is crucial to gain maximum compensation for the loss of their loved ones in order to make financial ends meet. Consulting personal injury attorneys can help to begin the financial healing process. Lost loved ones can never be returned, but the financial losses can be catastrophic for many families and they are entitled to compensation. In this case, it is very likely that the at-fault driver will be charged and prosecuted for the deaths of these men. Though that may offer some closure, the financial burdens will remain. By pursing a personal injury suit, financial compensation may be awarded to the victims’ families.
