Many New Yorkers rely on city buses to get them where they need to go. For many, hoping on a Metropolitan Transit Authority bus is just a regular part of their day. However, many people recently had their lives turned upside down when a MTA bus and a car collided in Brooklyn.
The bus accident happened near Albany Avenue and Herkimer Street around 4:40 p.m. According to a witness, the accident happened after the driver of the car ran a stop sign. At the time, this driver was fleeing from police. In total, 41 people were injured, including passengers in the car that was fleeing from police. According to police, the driver had a gun, and when police noticed this gun, he decided to run from the scene. The same witness to the accident said this driver was also injured in the crash. Of those injured; dozens were passengers on the MTA bus. Of the 41 injured, 12 suffered serious injuries. The other injuries were described as being minor. In looking at a case such as this one, those passengers on board the MTA bus may have a number of options available to them in terms of liability. In general, whenever there is an accident involving a bus, including a MTA bus, it is important to reach out to an attorney with experience handling personal injury cases. This attorney can look at the facts and prepare a case. This could be against negligent drivers, a bus company, or even a combination of parties.
