New numbers released by the federal government show an alarming trend. During the first half of this year, the number of traffic fatalities on U.S. roadways jumped 9 percent. Estimates show that more than 16,000 people have died so far this year. A normal ride on a New York City bus turned into a dangerous one earlier this month after a school bus sideswiped several cars before hitting an SUV that then collided with an MTA bus. Sixteen people in total suffered injuries in the crash. At least four of those injuries were serious. Numbers from 2006 indicate that 1.3 percent children with no chronic illnesses were exposed to medical errors, whereas more than 5 percent of children with chronic illness were affected by a medical error.
