QUEENS: Woman Stuck By City MTA Bus While Pushing Stroller In Accident On Queens Street
CITY MAY BE LIABLE FOR TRAGIC ACCIDENT
QUEENS, NEW YORK (November 16, 2016) – A 43-year-old woman that was pushing her baby in a stroller was hit a city bus as she was crossing 46th Ave. at 111th St. in North Corona, according to the New York Daily News.
The bus crushed the woman’s leg as she was crossing Queens Street. The three year old in the stroller did not appear to be harmed. The city had designated the street where the woman was hit as having a “Vision Zero” problem.
Paramedics rushed to the scene of the accident and transported the injured woman to the Elmhurst Hospital Center. She was listed in critical condition. It remains unclear how the bus crash occurred in the first place. The driver may not have seen the woman as she was crossing the street.
Police showed up at the scene of the accident but it doesn’t seem as though the bus driver will be charged.
Transport Workers Union members called on the city and the MTA to make the necessary changes to prevent these types of accidents from happening in the future.
Our staff at the RMFW Law Frim would like to extend its deepest sympathies to the woman that was injured in this horrific accident. We strongly urge the city and the MTA to make the necessary changes to prevent accidents like this going forward.
