BRIDGEPORT: Ricardo Rose, 56, Killed In Hit-And-Run Accident With Tractor-Trailer Truck After Fight With Truck Driver
TRUCKING COMPANY MAY BE LIABLE FOR FATAL HIT-AND-RUN ACCIDENT BRIDGEPORT, CONNECTICUT (July 3, 3016) – A 56-year-old man was killed in a tragic hit and run accident when the driver of a tractor trailer truck struck the man with his vehicle before fleeing the scene, according to CTpost. (map) Authorities have been able to identify the man that died in the crash as Ricardo Rose. Authorities are still investigating the crash, but they believe that it may have been the result of a drug deal gone bad. Police are saying that the driver of the red big rig drove around the area of prospect avenue looking to purchase crack cocaine. An altercation ensued after the truck driver revealed that he had no money to pay for the cocaine. During the fight Ricardo Rose was pushed out of the semi-truck and was run over after he fell underneath the wheels. Rose was later pronounced dead at the scene. Police were able to apprehend the driver of the semi-truck at the (JFK) Kennedy Airport in New York and charged him with felony hit-and-run. An investigation into the accident is still ongoing, but the trucking company that employed the semi-truck driver may be responsible for Ricardo Rose’s death. Based on the legal doctrine often referred to as “respondeat superior” an employer is legally responsible for the actions of their employees when those employees are acting within the scope of their employment. For example, a post office worker driving around the city to deliver mail would be acting within the scope of his employment while driving as he delivers the packages.
