Construction workers in New York City and beyond travel to their jobs everyday and often assume they will make it back home safely. Tragically, a construction accident can leave someone with devastating injuries. In certain cases, injuries sustained in a construction accident are fatal.
A 29-year-old man is dead after an accident at a construction site on Staten Island. The accident happened around 11 a.m. on June 21.
According to police, the man suffered a severe head injury after the wall of a trench collapsed. The worker was taken to the Staten Island University Hospital. However, his injuries were so severe that he was later pronounced dead.
A stop-work order has been issued for the construction site. In addition, an official with the Department of Buildings says the contractor will be cited for various violations.
Construction workers have an important job to do. Without their hard work, New York would not be the city it is today. Unfortunately, their job carries innate risks.
A construction accident can leave a person with life-changing injuries. They may have to undergo surgery and painful rehabilitation. Sadly, certain injuries may be permanent.
Despite the risks of the job, construction workers who are injured on the job may be able to pursue a personal injury lawsuit. Although workers’ compensation benefits will cover certain expenses, it may not cover everything. To determine if a personal injury lawsuit is appropriate, accident victims in New York City would be wise to consult with an experienced personal injury attorney.
