DeWitt: Sterling Injured In Construction Site Accident After A Steel Beam From A Crane Hit Him In The Head on Thompson Road PRAY FOR STERLING DEWITT, NEW YORK (July 1, 2016) – A 27-year-old construction worker was seriously injured in a tragic accident when a steel beam by a crane struck him on the head, according to Syracuse.com. (map) Thankfully the man involved in the accident was wearing a hard hat which likely saved his life according to police. There was an outpouring of support on Facebook where the man’s many friends and family identified him as Sterling. The hashtag #prayforsterling was also set up on Twitter. The accident happened on Monday in the early part of the morning. A group of steel beams that were tied together and being supported by a crane fell over. One of the beams struck Sterling in the head causing serious injuries. The worker was later transported to the University Hospital in Syracuse. Police are saying that the industrial accident happened at the site of a former Mobil Gas Station that was being turned into a new Express Mart on Thompson Road. Reporters have been able to identify the company that was involved in the accident as J & E Pile Driving Inc. OSHA found no previous safety violations for the company, though they will continue to investigate what happened in this construction accident.
