TRUCK ACCIDENT KILLS BELOVED SCHOOL CROSSING GUARD HEMPSTEAD, NEW YORK (10, 28, 2016) – A crossing guard was struck and killed by a big rig on Friday as the driver of the truck appears to have been trying to beat a read light, according to ABC 7 News. The accident took place on South Franklin and Grove Streets in Long Island. Police were able to identify the woman that was killed as Virginia Carol Leviner. She was holding up a stop sign in order to help children cross the street at the time of the fatal collision. It remains unclear if the big rig involved in the crash was speeding at the time. Police are continuing to investigate the crash and have put the driver of the truck into custody. People that knew Virginia Carol Leviner absolutely loved her.
