Millions of people ride the bus in and around New York City. Most of the time, people arrive at their destinations without incident, but an early morning bus ride into New York City gave some passengers quite a scare. On Oct. 18 around 5:35 a.m. in Rockland County near Sloatsburg, a New York Trailways bus carrying 16 passengers rear-ended a tractor-trailer. It was reported that a guardrail is the only thing that prevented the bus from going into the nearby river.
Eight people were injured in the bus accident, but only the driver suffered injuries severe enough to warrant admission to an area hospital. The nine other passengers on the bus were not injured in the crash and were put on another bus to New York City. According to reports, the area closest to the driver was badly damaged, as well as the side of the bus.
The injured passengers may have cause to bring a personal injury suit against the party that is found to be at fault. When someone is injured as a result of someone else’s carelessness, they may be awarded compensation for their injury.
This isn’t the first bus crash in the area. Fifteen people were killed in March when a tour bus hit a poll on its way to Chinatown from a casino in Pennsylvania. In May, another bus heading to Chinatown from North Carolina overturned on an interstate in Virginia. Four people were killed. Just a month later, a bus heading to Queens crashed into a tractor-trailer. Many of the passengers were injured and the driver of the bus was killed.
