Another name is added every 10 minutes to the national organ transplant waiting list. Unfortunately, an average of 21 people die every day due to delays in receiving the organ they need. In 2014, roughly 24,000 organ transplants are made possible by over 8,500 deceased donors and nearly 6,000 transplants from living donors.

Crane Collapse Leads to Call For Better Safety

In February of 2016, construction workers at 60 Hudson Street in New York City were attempting to secure a crane crawler. The construction workers had become concerned about high winds and snowy conditions. As the workers were in the process of attempting to secure the crane, the crane buckled. This resulted in the crane crashing down the street. It crashed into at least one vehicle and killed a 38-year old man who was sitting in his car on his commute to work.  The collapsing crane also sent debris raining down on the heads of those nearby, causing three others to be injured. As a result

A Look at Driver and Pedestrian Safety Issues in NYC

Seniors and young children are two demographic groups that tend to be at especially high risk of getting hurt in a pedestrian accident.  Seniors may have reductions in cognitive function related to age that can make it more difficult for them to determine when it is safe to cross a road. Physical impairment and age-related infirmities also mean seniors can take longer to get across roads, thus placing them in greater risk of getting hurt in a pedestrian crash if drivers are not paying attention. Because seniors are especially vulnerable to pedestrian accidents, taking extra steps to protect the elderly population is an important way

How to File a Domestic Violence Lawsuit

As many as one out of three adolescents have allegedly gone through violence while dating. How Changes to Road Designs Could Reduce NYC Traffic Deaths

Last year, despite efforts to reduce the number of pedestrian deaths, there were high fatality rates in New York. City Limits, for example, reported that for the first 13 days of November, a pedestrian died every single day in the city as a result of an accident with a bus or car that was traveling too fast. In total, 18 people died before the end of November — one for each business day of the month.  Clearly, with so many pedestrians losing their lives, Mayor Bill de Blasio’s Vision Zero campaign did not achieve its goal of zero pedestrian fatalities. City Limits suggested that the
