Medical malpractice is the number three cause of death in the United States. According to a study released by the US Department of Health and Human Services in 2012, hospitals reported only 14% of treatment errors and other healthcare mistakes.
Of every 1,000 babies born in the United States, 6 to 8 are born with a birth injury. This means that roughly 1 in every 9,714 people in the country is born with some type of a birth injury. Statistics reveal that approximately 28,000 infants are born with birth defects every year.
In a recent study of medical malpractice cases in the Unites States, it was found that of all plaintiff patients, 60% were female, with a median age of 38 years. Approximately one-fifth was newborns while roughly 12% were over the age of 65.
New York patients have the possibility of being harmed during the transition from a hospital to home care. The discharge process can be a chaotic time when health care providers are more likely to make mistakes.
