QUEENS: George Smith, Crane Operator, Killed In Crane Accident At Construction Site

CRANE ACCIDENT LEAVES CRANE OPERATOR AND CONSTRUCTION WORKER DEAD QUEENS, NEW YORK (November 23, 2016) 

Two people were killed when a metal beam fell onto a crane in a Queens construction zone, according to ABC News. Authorities have been able to identify the two men that died as George Smith and Alessandro Ramos. Police are saying that the construction workers were attempting to extend a building when the accident occurred. The crane was trying to lift a steel beam weighing 6,500 pounds when the cable snapped. George Smith was inside the cab of the crane and Alessandro Ramos was guiding the beam when the cable snapped. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene. Labor activists said that the fatal accident raised important safety concerns and the need for reform.
