posted in Car Accidents on Sunday, November 4, 2012. Traffic signs are put in place for a reason. When people fail to obey them, terrible tragedies can occur. A recent crash in another state should serve as a reminder to New York City residents how important it is to obey traffic signs and traffic laws in order to prevent a car accident from happening.
On the evening of Oct. 31, a combine collided with a minivan on a rural Indiana road. The driver of the combine reportedly failed to stop at a stop sign and collided with a minivan carrying six people. One report says that the minivan was “decimated” after it became caught in the blades of the combine. “I was shocked once I saw it. I’ve never seen a crash that bad in real life,” a witness said. Three people in the minivan were killed, three others were seriously injured. The driver of the combine was not injured in the accident. Authorities do not believe drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash. However, the combine driver was taken to the hospital to undergo blood testing. In addition to potential criminal charges, the combine driver could also face a civil lawsuit. Medical bills and funeral costs can quickly become unmanageable. Innocent victims should not have to face financial difficulties as a result of a negligent driver. Accident victims and their family members can pursue compensation through a personal injury or wrongful death lawsuit. No amount of money can change the past or bring back a lost loved one. However, a successful lawsuit may give victims some peace of mind knowing that a reckless driver has been held responsible.
