When we talk about being injured or killed in a bus accident, we tend to focus on those cases involving the Metropolitan Transit Authority, commonly referred to as the MTA in New York City. Of course though, these are not the only types of buses that pose risks to passengers and others on the roadways.
Take for example the recent case involving a 24-year-old man who was killed after falling out of a party bus. Granted, the fatal accident did not happen in New York, but due to the very nature of the accident, it is something that could happen anywhere in the U.S.
The bus accident happened late last month. The 24-year-old — who worked for a digital design firm — was out on a party bus for a friend’s birthday. It was around 12:20 a.m. when he got up to change the music near the front of the bus. While standing up, his father said, the bus made a sudden turn and the 24-year-old fell out of the bus through the door.
After falling out of the bus, he was hit by several cars on the highway.
When hearing about an accident like this, tragic is the first word that comes to mind. Going by the story in the New York Daily News, the 24-year-old was just out with friends trying to have a good time when the unthinkable happened.
In looking at this case though, one does have to wonder just what happened. Why did the bus driver swerve? Was it the bus driver losing control or was he swerving to avoid another vehicle? Could a third party be found liable? Or should the bus company be held responsible?
These are the types of questions that need to be answered after a fatal party bus accident. Typically, an attorney who handles bus accident cases can help to start putting together the facts.
