The husband of a New York woman who died at a Brooklyn hospital in February 2015 is calling on the state to launch an investigation into her death. He alleges that medical staff mistreated his wife and that she died due to medical malpractice.

The man, who has retained a lawyer, claims that his 47-year-old wife was treated poorly when paramedics arrived at their apartment to take her to Coney Island Hospital. He says she was screaming and crawling on their bed when five EMTs held her down and strapped her to a gurney "like a freaking animal." Once in the emergency room, he claims a nurse incorrectly came to the conclusion that his wife had been smoking synthetic marijuana and then laughed about it to other members of the hospital staff. However, he says his wife was never a drug user.

The man claims his wife was left alone in a room until an ICU doctor finally came down to examine her. By that time, she had gone into cardiac arrest and died before she could be transferred to the intensive care unit. According to the medical examiner's office, it is possible she died of bacterial meningitis. Coney Island Hospital issued a statement saying that it is "committed" to providing quality patient care.

New York residents who are the victims of a misdiagnosis or a delayed diagnosis often see their conditions worsened, with additional medical expenses necessary. A medical malpractice attorney might be of assistance in seeking compensation from the negligent health care practitioner or facility.
