NEW YORK, NEW YORK (August 30, 2016) – Five people were injured after their kayak was struck by a ferry boat in the Hudson River by 40th Street near Pier 79., according to CBS News. One of the people that was injured is in stable condition after sustaining a severe arm laceration. The other 4 people are believed to have only minor injuries. Rescue workers immediately rushed to the scene in order to treat those that were injured. It still remains unclear how the accident happened. The driver of the ferry may not have seen the kayakers. Witnesses say that the sun was low at the time of the collision. The NYPD Coast Guard did a sobriety test on the captain of the ferry, but he tested negative for alcohol.
