Most people are looking forward to the upcoming holiday weekend. However, New Yorkers will likely be faced with big traffic delays as many families hit the road for Labor Day weekend.
Traffic monitoring company INRIX predicts that New Yorkers will face the largest traffic delays in the country. In fact, people trying to make it to the Hamptons could spend more than four hours in the car.
Unfortunately, traffic delays could worsen if drivers are not careful. With so many people hitting the road, car accidents are likely to occur. Although Labor Day weekend is a time to relax with family and friends, a negligent driver could disrupt plans and even cause extensive injuries.
People may suffer minor injuries such as bumps and bruises when they are involved in a crash. However, car accidents frequently cause severe injuries. A major car accident can cause head and spinal cord injuries and even death.
Drivers, therefore, in New York City and elsewhere must be vigilant. Drivers who are distracted, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and those who fail to obey traffic laws show blatant disregard for the safety of others on the road.
A car accident can have devastating consequences. Fortunately, accident victims have legal recourse if it is determined that another driver’s negligent behavior caused their injuries. They may file a personal injury claim against the negligent parties. The money that is awarded through a personal injury claim can be used to cover medical bills and lost wages as well as make up for any pain and suffering an individual endured as a result of an accident.
