TIRE BLOWOUT MAY BE RESPONSIBLE FOR DEADLY CRASH HOLMDEL, NEW JERSEY (July 2, 2016)
Two people were killed in a tragic accident and many others were injured after a van overturned on the Garden State Parkway toll road, according to NJ.com. (map) Authorities have been able to identify the two people that died in the crash as Charles Derosier and Esperanza Guardado-Quintani. They were both ejected from the van and pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities are saying that Manuel Perez was driving the van when he lost control of the vehicle and it struck a guardrail before flipping over. There were a total of 14 people in the van at the time of the collision. 12 of the injured passengers were transported to the Bayshore Community Hospital after the 2001 Ford van rolled over. The condition of the driver of the van, Manuel Perez, is still unknown at this time. The northbound express lanes of the Parkway were closed for a few hours Friday following the crash. Authorities are still investigating what happened, but a woman familiar with the victims told police that a tire blowout may be responsible for the deaths. Accidents involving tires typically occur when the tread separates from the rest of the tire. Tire tread separations may be a result of manufacturer defect when the chemical bonding agent used to create the tire fails to bond the tire tread to the body of the tire.
