A man and his passenger were involved in a late night crash last week in Queens. The driver and the passenger were killed, and the other driver is suspected to have been under the influence when the car accident occurred. The ‘Jaws of Life’ were used to remove the driver of the Saturn, who died at the hospital. The other vehicle, a Ford, struck the Saturn and sent it spinning down the block. The Ford ended up smashing through a low brick wall before crashing into a home.
The passenger in the Saturn was taken to the hospital and was listed in stable condition. Police said that the driver of the Ford appeared to be drunk and refused a breath test. He was transported to the hospital for his injuries where blood would be drawn to determine if he had alcohol in his system.
Drunk drivers take their own lives into their hands when they choose to drive drunk, but they also are putting the other drivers and pedestrians at risk. Too often we encounter events like this, where lives are lost as a result of reckless driving. For the families of those who are killed or injured as victims of drunk driving, it can be a challenge to move forward emotionally and financially. Serious injuries can have long-term health consequences on top of the medical expenses associated with the initial injuries.
Many families who are affected by drunk drivers are not aware that there are legal options available to pursue compensation for these burdens. Whether wrongful death or personal injury, speaking to an attorney can present the various options to help to ease the burden of victims.
