Everyone in New York City and beyond knows that car accidents can happen, but you never expect that it will happen to you.
This was surely the thought 36-year-old actress Mayim Bialik had before her Volvo was struck by another vehicle shortly after noon on Aug. 15 as she drove to a family get-together for her youngest son’s birthday.
Best known for her role in “Blossom,” and more recently as the snarky, yet brilliant Amy Farrah Fowler in the CBS comedy “The Big Bang Theory,” Bialik was struck in a near head-on collision. The crash left the actress’ left hand severely injured.
According to a Los Angeles police officer, her injuries were mainly from the car’s airbags deploying rather than the actual accident itself. This leaves many to wonder how this will affect the actress’ life and career.
By way of her husband, Bialik tweeted that she was in pain but would be able to keep all her fingers.
The occupants of the other vehicle, a group of tourists from Chile, left with only minor injuries and were neither cited nor detained, according to reports.
It seems that not even celebrities are immune to the injuries that can result from a car accident. Thankfully, doctors are more concerned that Bialik’s finger might only be broken and not something more severe.
It appears that Bialik will make a full recovery. However, that is not always the case. Car accidents can leave people with debilitating injuries. The injuries may be so severe that people require hospitalization, surgery and sometimes painful rehabilitation.
Fortunately, accident victims in New York City have legal options to consider. They may wish to file a personal injury lawsuit against any negligent parties. After all, people who drive recklessly and injure others in the process should be held responsible.
