A collision between two sports utility vehicles in New York turned into a fatal car crash, killing three people and injuring a 9-year-old boy. The car accident happened 90 miles northwest of New York City on a highway in rural upstate New York just after 11 a.m., on a Monday morning.
An eastbound Ford Explorer crashed into a westbound GMC Jimmy, killing the 21-year-old male driver of the GMC. Police say a man and a woman in the Ford Explorer were ejected and pronounced dead at the scene. Police say a 9-year-old boy was rescued from the Ford Explorer by a passerby. The boy was taken to a hospital to receive medical treatment for his injuries.
According to authorities, the car accident was on a “sloping straightaway.” They reported there have been several speed-related accidents on that stretch of highway. Police will likely investigate the incident to determine what happened and who was at fault. Unfortunately, most of the occupants in the vehicles died, so investigation into the cause of the accident may prove to be difficult. At this time, it is unclear as to whether the driver of either SUV was speeding, though police say it appears one of the drivers drifted into the oncoming lane and smashed into the other car at a high speed.
