After a recent fatal accident in the Bronx, cab drivers are coming together to express their concerns about local roadways. The fatal car accident occurred after an SUV collided with the median and became airborne. The roof of the taxi following it was torn off, and the driver and his fare were both killed. The New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers spokesman is contributing the accident to the metal medians on the highways. Instead, concrete medians would be preferable as they tend to limit accidents. In the past, the metal medians have been replaced with concrete barriers, and cabbies are hoping to see this stretch of the Hutchinson River Parkway see the same treatment.
There is never a simple answer when a fatal accident occurs. In this case, both victims were fathers, and their families are left to pick up the pieces. The SUV had skidded across three lanes of traffic before colliding with the median and flipping. At this time, there are no additional details about the accident, such as whether it involved speed, distraction or alcohol.
